Here, these bracelets were linked to a supposed sex game expanding their popularity among young teenagers. These wristbands were subsequently dubbed as “sex bracelets” some local rumors declared that girls who wore these wristbands implied that they were disposed to engage in certain acts such as kissing, hugging, and even sexual intercourse. The colors of these wristbands supposedly determined the kind of act that the person wanted to perform. In this sense, the boy that was able to break a girl’s bracelet had the access to such acts. These rumors alarmed the principals of some schools in Gainesville, Florida, so that these wristbands were banned to suggest disruption and inappropriate usage. Subsequently, these wristbands were flagged as disturbing in other schools around Florida and elsewhere.

These acts were mainly spotted by some sensationalist media. Although the effects of these early bans did not imply that the rumors were true, it certainly generated further attention on the uses for silicone wristbands, or even something of a moral controversy.

Those wristbands are cheap to produce because they do not require a steel mold to be produced. Different from debossed and embossed wristbands, these types of wristbands are printed with special dyes so that the message is printed on a basic silicone band. Finally, there is the color filled wristband which is the same debossed bracelet but the letters are filled or painted with a different color.

Additionally, all these types of wristbands can be segmented or swirled. These two methods are used to mix two or more colors on a bracelet. Segmented wristbands display every different color in segments or divisions. Swirled colors of silicone bracelets can be scrambled so that the bracelet looks like marble.
